Barry Greenstein was invited to play in the Poker Superstars tournament on FSN as one of the eight best players in the world. He was chosen because of his cash game results. The producers mentioned that the public didn't know him well because he hadn't played in many tournaments. He told the producers he would play in some before the show aired and he would win some.

Then, when he decided to give the tournament winnings to charity, it spurred him on to keep playing in big tournaments.
